State of Emergency



We have a state of emergency going on and no one wants to acknowledge it.

Our diet is literally so bad that we are killing ourselves! Almost everyone is overweight or obese and as a nation our eating habits are so out-of-control and far off from what is scientifically considered a healthy diet that health experts, like myself, don’t even know where to start trying to change this behavior. 
We have tried being nice about it and published public service announcements about eating at least five servings of produce each day. We have tried educational programs and pamphlets to tell people that their food is causing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and all the other illnesses that are disabling or killing them. We have told people that they should get at least an hour of physical activity every day. Yet, some days, it seems that none of that is working and that all I can do is stand there in the middle of the street, looking up in disbelief, as people throw themselves off the roofs. It’s like people are committing one huge mass suicide – with food!
As I keep writing about healthy eating, I can’t help but think to muself, “People know this shit already!”
There has to be something else I need to do to get them to understand that not only are they killing themselves with their choices but that their lifestyle is also why they are living in such misery and pain. Their knees are hurting – no it’s not because they’re getting old – it’s because they’re getting out of shape and overweight.  Knees were not designed to hold up that much weight and they are supposed to move several hours each day for them to stay strong.  Knees are collapsing due to their weakened condition, under a mass they cannot handle. People’s backs are hurting because they are carrying too much weight in the front without the muscle strength to maintain a posture that would support the spine. Infections occur more often because of messed up body chemistry and malnourishment that feeds the bad bacteria while simultaneously weakening the immune system. Adult onset diabetes is now happening to 9-year-olds because they are obese and malnourished.
Wait a minute, obesity AND malnourishment? If that isn’t an oxymoron, I don’t know what is...
No, it’s not the government or the fast food restaurants poisoning you. You are!  You don’t want to eat healthy foods or even care enough to learn what you should eat to properly nourish your physical being.  You keep saying, “everything is OK in moderation” with a silly smile on your face, while not eating anything in moderation at all.  You make fun of “health nuts” for being extremists and your fit friends for working too hard while pressuring your healthy friends to go binge drinking with you.  You are doing that.  No one else is responsible for it.  
The good news is that if you can wake up, be actually “woke” for a minute and understand that it is YOU, not something else out of your control that's poisoning you, it is possible for you to literally change your health in a matter of a few months.
